Welcome to Houston County

Our History:
The first activity involving rural youth in Houston County began about 1912 when Ora Dillon involved girls in the Tomato Club. T. H. Richardson was employed in 1915 to work with farmers and young boys in agricultural production.

W. W. Smith started to work in 1926 as an agricultural agent. Sheep and cattle programs included production practices and judging activities. Smith conducted monthly meetings in communities involving all family members.

In the 1920's, a summer camping program was established. Smith involved about 30 youth on the C. C. Flannery Farm. Both boys and girls attended the camp.
