Recreational Opportunities

The Clyde York 4-H Center has a wide of supervised and self-guided recreation opportunities to take advantage of during your downtime while visiting!

Supervised Recreation Options:

Low Ropes Course: Described by a renowned challenge course designer as one of the best in Eastern Tennessee, our low ropes course is perfect for team building and corporate retreats, featuring many obstacles and challenges cleverly crafted to increase communication skills, problem-solving abilities, and improve teamwork.

Swimming Pool: Not only is our pool Olympic-sized, it’s heated!  It also features twin diving boards over a diving well, a shallow end, and a 180’ long twisty slide.  Staff lifeguards are required at all times when the pool is in use.

Rifle Range: At the rifle range, learn how to safely and properly handle and shoot a .22 rifle.  The covered rifle range features a vaulted roof, observational benches, and three shooting tables with adjustable seats for right or left handed guests.

Archery: Aim for the bullseye in archery!  Learn how to use a Genesis bow and the physics involved in hitting the target.  The Center can facilitate classes geared toward all skill levels, from beginners to improving the marksmanship of practiced archers.

Kayak/Canoeing: Craving an outdoor activity at a more leisurely pace?  Take advantage of the kayak pond, where you can paddle in a canoe or recreational kayak, enjoying the peaceful scenery and calming atmosphere.  Staff lifeguards are required at all times the kayak pond is in use, and all participants are required to wear life jackets.

Zip-line: Get an adrenaline rush on our zipline, which spans the rivulet that feeds the adjacent kayak pond.

Self-Guided Recreation Options:

Soccer Field:  The soccer field is located next to the pool, and is also perfect for flag football, tag, and other games requiring a spacious, grassy place in which to play.  The field can also be utilized as a marching field for band practices.

Football Field: The football field is located next to the catfish pond.  It is lit for night use, and has an observation tower that comes in handy for use in marching band practices.

Tennis/Badminton: The tennis/badminton court is positioned at the camp’s main entrance, and affords players a sense of privacy and seclusion during one-on-one and partnered games.

Basketball Court:  The full basketball court is completely covered and lit at night for evening games.

Volleyball: The volley ball court is centrally located between the boys’ and girls’ cabins.  Its lit, sandy court mimics the beach-volleyball experience.

Horseshoes: Multiple horseshoe pits dot the expanse between the girls’ cabins and the Pine Lodge.  There’s no sound quite as satisfying as the “clink” of iron against iron when you make a “ringer.”

Playground: There are several swings and slides at the playground area, along with an umbrella-covered picnic table for guests.  An ADA accessible swing is available upon request.

Hiking Trails:  Go exploring on one of our many hiking trails.  Search out interesting plants, insects, trees, and wildlife and take photo “trophies” as souvenirs, all while enjoying the fresh air.

Fishing:  Bait your hook, cast your line, and patiently await the first nibble before reeling in your catch.

Campfires:  The Morgan/Jolley Friendship Circle is the location of choice for rousing campfire sing-alongs, ghost stories, and more.  S’mores supplies can be provided at additional cost.

Gaga:  Two heavy-duty gaga pits are available upon request.  What is gaga, you ask? Why, it’s a fun, fast-paced amalgamation of hand-ball and dodgeball where players try to tag another player out by bouncing a ball off of the opposing player’s legs.
