What is Walk Across Tennessee (WAT)?
Invest in your health by participating in Walk Across Tennessee!
The eight-week program was designed for all Tennesseans to become active through exercise while creating and meeting personal goals with team support.
The WAT campaign is coordinated by the University of Tennessee Extension, Family Consumer Sciences. We invite everyone to participate in activities that will encourage movement and promote health.
Why should I join WAT?
Are looking for a unique and fun way to motivate your employees, church members, county residents, or students to become physically active? Maybe you are looking for a way to help motivate yourself to become more physically active. Whatever your needs are, Walk Across Tennessee can provide the support and fun needed to get people moving!
What will be required of me?
To participate in WAT, you will need:
- a team of 8 people
- a pedometer
- a team captain
- a team name
- to set a personal goal
- a good pair of walking shoes
- a willingness to record your exercise daily
- turn in your registration form, sign the release and pay registration fee
For more details of the program, contact your local county extension office.
What kinds of activities should I do?
Although most people choose to walk for their daily activity, you can conduct any activity you want (swimming, running, bike riding, etc).
Exercise qualifies as any activity that is performed "with the intent to be physically active, raises heart rate and/or causes you to break a sweat" for at least 10 minutes at a time.
The teams will have a friendly competition to see who can log the most miles walking, jogging, biking, dancing or other types of physical activity.
How can I register?
Below under "Team Packet" you can find all the forms needed to participate. All registration should be turned in to the Extension Office.
