2017 Garden Basics Class

The classes are held on Thursday evenings from 6 to 9pm, at the Lane Agri-Park Community Center building located at 315 John R Rice Blvd., Murfreesboro. Class dates for the 2017 (5-week) series are February 2nd, 9th,16th, 23rd and March 2 with a makeup snow date on March 9th,if needed. The Garden Basics course is designed to help beginning gardeners and those new to horticultural activities, or persons new to gardening in Middle Tennessee. The course is also popular with experienced gardeners looking to pick up some new insights and expand their knowledge.

All Garden Basics classes are taught by Certified Master Gardeners, in cooperation with the local University of Tennessee and Tennessee State University Extension Service. Class topics include information on starting the garden, site selection, landscaping, basic botany, composting, soil fertility, pest management, organic gardening, flowers & shrubs, growing the top vegetables, and more.

Registration Fee is $50.00* and includes all course materials, drinks and snacks, instruction from Certified Master Gardeners, plus the opportunity to enjoy fellowship with other gardeners. Class size is limited to the first 45 registrants. [* Family registration of $40 for each additional person at the same address.]

Certification Classes

If you are looking for an opportunity to learn more about gardening, make friends or find a volunteer opportunity in our community—then the Master Gardener program may be for you!
Training  will begin on  Feb. 4th and continue  through April 17th.  
Most classes will be held Tuesdays evenings with some Saturday classes and activities.
You will be taught a wide variety of horticultural topics including:
    Botany ~ Pest & Disease Identification & Controls ~ Vegetable Gardening ~ Gardening Education ~ Rain Gardens ~ Beekeeping Fundamentals ~ Fruit Tree & Shrub Care ~ Organic Gardening Methods  ~ Native Plants ~ Invasive Species Control ~ Lawn Care & more!
You will have the opportunity for hands-on gardening projects, lots of demonstrations and outdoor activities. Cost for the class is $150.  Discounts for couples and a limited number of scholarships are available.  Classes will be taught by Extension Agents, Industry Professionals and Senior Master Gardeners. 
You don’t have to be a gardening “expert” to take this class!
All that’s needed is a love for growing, a desire to learn more and a willingness to help others.
