Horticulture encompasses the production and management of ornamental
plants and turf grass, as well as fruits and vegetables for profit.
Extension programs in this area focus on challenges facing these
segments of the industry in marketing, integrated pest management,
sustainable cultural practices, environmental and human health risks,
invasive species, regulations, and profitability.
Commercial Landscape Management Program Area
The workgroup will assist agents with the
development of curriculum in the area of Commercial Landscape Management
education, and in providing a needs assessment model, which may often
involve multi-county cooperation and programming. Methods for
identifying clientele in a high-turnover business climate will include
utilization of State regulatory information.
Nursery Production Program Area
The workgroup will identify high priority
needs and design, develop, implement, and evaluate educational programs
relative to Tennessee nursery crops production. This includes
identifying priorities for relevant resources such as extension
publications that are integral components of the programming.
