4-H encourages diverse groups of youth to develop their unique skills and talents to the fullest potential. Young people participate in 4-H through clubs, special interest groups, after-school programs, camps and many other activities. "Learning by doing" through hands on activities and community involvement empowers 4-H'ers to develop and strengthen life skills. 4-H is a family affair. This includes the parent-child relationship and the extended family of community and state. It is a unique blend of government, private business and volunteers working together to broaden the horizons of Montgomery County's young people.
Youth participate in 4-H through school 4-H clubs, community clubs, special interest groups, after-school programs, camps and many other activities. Although there are many common activities, each county in Tennessee has its own unique programs and areas of emphasis.

Poultry Project

Land Judging
Land judging trains youth in decision-making skills related to soil and water conservation.
Team members will learn:
How to determine the physical characteristics of the soil
How to interpret this information for decision-making regarding usage and management practices for this soil
How to predict the limitations of this soil and expected crop yields
How this soil will affect the quality of ground and surface water
How this soil will be adapted to a possible home site
A team consists of three or four 4-H members. Each member works independently and the top three scores are combined to make up the team score. During the contest, at least four pits or sites will be evaluated.
4-H Clubs
Montgomery County youth 4th-12th grade (ages 9-19) may participate in 4-H Club activities through participation in-school clubs, after-school clubs, and community clubs.
4-H LifeSkills
A program for junior high youth enrolled in 4-H. The LifeSkills regional judging
activity consists of centers that incorporate various subjects in Family and
Consumer Sciences.
4-H Embryology
Local teachers can utilize incubators and program materials to teach their class the science of embryology.
4-H Shooting Sports
The Tennessee 4-H Shooting Sports Program is a volunteer-led program that
teaches life skills through Shooting Sports. Youth learn safety and shooting
techniques in the disciplines of archery, BB gun, and shotgun. You will have the opportunity to compete at the regional and state level.
4-H Horse Club
Youth interested in horses meet to share their passion and learn more about horses. Participants can participate in horse bowl, hippology, trail rides, shows, horse judging and much more.
4-H Home School Group
4-H Home School Club meets monthly at the 4-H office.
Forestry Judging Team
A team consists of three or four 4-H members. Each member will work independently and the top three scores will be combined to make up the team's score. Forestry judging trains young people in decision-making skills related to forestry and forest management. 4-H'ers will learn how to identify native species of trees by their twig, fruit and wood, how to identify insects and diseases found in trees of the Tennessee Forest, how to use a compass and basic geometric concepts, and also how to measure trees and evaluate timber.
4-H Outdoor Meat Cookery
Junior and Junior High Teams compete at the regional and state level. Learn how to plan a menu, prepare a display. Learn to barbecue Lamb, Beef and Poultry in a fun and unique way.
Clarksville Area Junior Better Beef Show
4-H Youth are able to show 1 or 2 Steers and learn about raising beef cattle, recordkeeping, fitting and showing and market steer management.
Market Lamb Show
4-H youth will feed, train, show and care for
sheep project animals as they learn about sheep breeds, selection, grooming,
production, management, marketing, reproduction, health and agribusiness
