4-H Poultry Project

Page Content

4-H members wishing to participate in the Poultry Project ("Chick Chain") should complete an application and pay a $30 fee to receive ten baby chickens in a specific breed.   Breeds vary by year, but we always offer at least three for participants to chose from.   Each member can purchase one set only.  This project is only available to the first 30 members.

Applications are due in February and chickens arrive in March (around spring break) each year.  Members raise the chickens and in September bring only three of them back for the 4-H Show & Sale. The remaining nine are yours to keep forever! The 4-H Show & Sale is held in September.

At the 4-H Show & Sale (held in September) members can expect:

  • All chickens will be judged and prizes awarded all chickens will be judged and prizes awarded
  • All chickens will be sold, auction style (proceeds go to local 4-H club)
  • Record book winners will be announced (books are due September 2 to the office)

Upon completion of the project, 4-H members will receive their initial starting fee ($30) back.  A check will be available for pick-up at the 4-H Office beginning October 1st. Checks MUST be picked up by October 30, 2020.  This check is forfeited, if the project is not completed.
