Marion County Extension is a cooperative division of the University of Tennessee Institute of Agriculture. This statewide educational organization is funded by federal, state, and local governments. UT Extension brings research based information about agriculture, family and consumer sciences, and resource development to Marion County. Also, the 4-H Club youth development organization is administered by UT Extension.

A strong part of UT Extension is the link it provides to the professional staff at the University of Tennessee. Specialists in the many varied areas of Agriculture and Family and Consumer Science train agents and work through agents to conduct programs in the counties and develop educational material. Hundreds of residents are provided information about agriculture and family and consumer science.

Extension gives special attention to youth. Preparing young people to become responsible and involved leaders and citizens of Tennessee and the nation, is the goal of the 4-H program. This goal is accomplished by providing educational experiences for young people to gain knowledge, develop life skills, live healthy lives, make intelligent career choices and form positive attitudes - values young people will rely on throughout their lives. Tennessee has one of the largest 4-H memberships in the nation.
