4-H Judging Teams

4-H Judging teams are short-term, intensive trainings in a particular subject area. The goal of the trainings is to compete at the Judging Team competitions. Judging Teams are typically comprised of three to four youth in the same grade/level. For more information, contact 4-H Agents Katelyn Barker or Carrie Joyner at 731-855-7656.

 Hippology is available for 4-H members in 4th-12th grades. This is an

educational, fun, knowledge-driven class about the amazing characteristics,

breeds, differences and similarities, and just plain joy of learning about horses!

This is a county team competition as well as an individual competition. The

contest is s test of basic knowledge related to the Horse Industry.

Hippology members are also trained for the 4H Horse Bowl, which is much like

the game of Jeopardy.

 Horse Judging is available for 4-H members in 4th-12th grades. Members are

trained how to evaluate both conformation and performance abilities according

to particular industry standards of differing breeds of horses. Additionally, students

will continue the development of communicative skills through the presentation of

oral reasons which defend each person's rational for placing classes.

Join our award-winning 4-H Livestock Judging Team and learn how to evaluate beef

cattle, goats, hogs, and sheep. This group is open to fourth through twelfth grade

students. You do not have to have prior animal experience to join this team!

The National 4-H Wildlife Habitat Education Program (WHEP) is designed to teach youth

about the fundamentals of wildlife and fisheries science and management. The contest

addresses these concepts with the following four activities: On-site recommendation of

wildlife management practices, written wildlife management plan, general wildlife knowledge,

and wildlife identification test.

The CDM Judging Team targets high school 4-H members. It is designed to teach students to observe, compare, and make fact-based consumer decisions. 4-Hers use their consumer knowledge to rank similarly based products to fit a given scenario. They will learn to organize their thoughts to defend their decisions in oral reasons. Practice may require some trips to local merchants.lifeskills.1.png 

LifeSkills Judging is open to 4-H members in fourth through eighth grades. The contest is a regional judging activity which consists of centers that incorporate various subjects in Family and Consumer Sciences, such as food safety, consumer education, personal development,nutrition and health, etc.. Youth make decisions based on scenarios from information learned in these subject areas.

Outdoor Meat Cookery (OMC) & Meats Judging is available to 4-H members in grades six through twelve. OMC teaches participants the art and science of preparing meat products in an outdoor setting. Youth learn the safe handling practices and preparation skills to grill beef, pork, lamb, and poultry. Participants will compete in four-member teams, with each member cooking a species. Senior High teams will also prepare a table display designed by the team.

 

 

 

 

Jr. High Project Showcase is designed to provide an outlet that will allow 4-H members in fourth through eighth grades to showcase their project involvement. This event is broken into three different activities:

4th - 5th Grade: Project demonstrations

6th - 8th Grade: Interactive Exhibits

6th - 8th Grade: Project Portfolios
