​The Bedford County Family and Community Education Clubs celebrated the Achievements of their 2014 year with a "Musical Spring Fling" on Thursday, March 19, 2015.  County Council President, Jean Raby, presided over the event with Kay Harrell giving the devotional and Extension Agent, Whitney Danhof, presenting the awards.  The highlight of the evening was the entertainment by Andy and Lee Huffer, 4-Hers from Moore County.  The high school twins sang, played guitar and joked with the audience, bringing much laughter and fun to the evening.  Congratulations to our award winners!

Bedford County's Best of the Best Winner, Louise Moore.  This award is given for outstanding community service and leadership within FCE.

 


Bedford County members receive recognition for outstanding volunteer service through the Certified Volunteer Unit program.  Louise Armstrong, Vavial Jamison, Carolyn Jone and Louise Moore receive recognition for 500 hours of service and Sherry Brown receives recognition for 1500 hours.

 



Ten Clubs were recognized as Master Clubs for 2014.  Pictured are the 2014 Club Presidents:  Jerry Sue Boyce (Wheel Club), Sherry Brown (Pleasant Grove Club), Bonnie Hill (Friends and Family Club), Cecelia Dougan (Flat Creek Club), Charlene Judd (Four Corners Club).  Front:  Ruth Owens (Heart of the Home Club), Virgie Summers (Unionville Club), Catherine Talley (Town and Country Club) and Ann Canady (Fairview Club).  Not pictured Barbara Dawson (Shelbyville Club).

 



Ruth Owens of the Heart of the Home Club reached ten years of 100% membership in the club this year.

Eighty-seven members were recognized as 100% members for 2014.

 



Receiving recognition for being the top readers in the clubs were:

Cecelia Dougan (109 books), Nancy Holton (147 books), Marie Spence (160 books) and Sherry Brown (215 books).

Fifty-four members participated in the reading program last year.
