UT Extension provides a gateway to the University of Tennessee as the outreach unit of the Institute of Agriculture. It is a statewide educational organization, funded by federal, state and local governments, that brings research-based information about agriculture, youth, families and communities to the people of Tennessee where they live and work. Extension’s mission is to help citizens improve their lives and solve problems.
Using research, questionnaires, observations and sales records, Extension’s estimated impact was $484 million for fiscal year 2012. It is estimated that for every $1 in public funds invested in Extension, $9.88 was returned to the people of Tennessee in increased revenue, increased savings and one-time capital purchases.
UT Extension’s commitment to the future is to advance Tennessee and its citizens through innovative programs and partnerships. Our promise is to use our abilities and expertise to increase Tennessee’s economic prosperity, improve environmental sustainability and enhance well-being in rural, urban and suburban communities throughout the state. Tennessee’s future is bright, and Extension agents and specialists are excited about the opportunities that lie ahead for the state and its citizens.
