Insight for Youth in Decisions They Will Face as Adults

On My Own is a hands-on, real-life simulation that gives young people experience in making financial decisions they will face as adults. Youth learn how occupation and income affect their lifestyle. UT Extension Family and Consumer Sciences has educated more than 30,000 Tennessee youth with On My Own. More than half indicated they would continue their education beyond high school.
See how On My Own is teaching life skills.

Training to Enhance Child Care

Ensuring Tennesseans have access to high-quality child care is one of the most effective methods of increasing short- and long-term public revenue and savings, with returns of $8 for every $1 invested. UT Extension Family and Consumer Sciences agents provided a Bright Future Child Care Training program to 1,108 state child care workers. Eighty-nine percent reported they are managing program and financial issues based on the best practices taught.

Academic and Career Training for 4-H Youth

More than 150 Tennessee youth from across the state gather each year for 4-H Academic Conference. The program marked its 25th year in 2013. Through it, UT scientists and specialists guide youth learning on a variety of subjects, giving them an in-depth look at college coursework and career opportunities in fields related to their interests.
