Animals and Livestock
Extension faculty serve the agricultural industry of Tennessee by providing educational programs on the expert care and efficient production and management of animals. Program Areas
4-H Programs — provide support to the Tennessee 4-H program by providing literature and guidance for 4-H animal science projects and conducting beef, sheep, horse, poultry, dairy and market hog shows for 4-H'ers.
Beef Programs — involving beef cattle are provided in breeding and genetics, reproduction, nutrition and forage utilization, production and management and marketing.
Dairy Programs — provide dairy producers with the latest research-verified information on all aspects of dairy cattle production and management.
Horse Programs — provide information in breeding and genetics, reproduction, nutrition and forage utilization, production, management and marketing.
Poultry Programs — provide resource information about commercial poultry farm operations, small backyard flocks, quail, turkeys and waterfowl. Programs focus on poultry waste problems, environmental concerns, state and federal regulations and nutrient management planning
Sheep Programs — provide information on breeding and genetics, reproduction, nutrition and forage utilization, production, management and marketing.
Swine Programs — provide resource information concerning commercial pork production, including genetics, nutrition, management systems, artificial insemination, water managment, meat quality, carcass evaluation and marketing.

Animal Waste Management — A state-wide animal waste management educational program.
Beef Cattle fIRM — A software product designed for beef cattle farmers and ranchers.
Bull Testing Program — The Bull Test Station is operated by the Middle Tennessee Research & Education Center which provides information on performance-tested bull.
Buy-Sell Margins Calculator — This program allows you to look at historical buy/sell margins for buy-sell periods that you select for heifers and steers. These historical buy/sell margins can give you some feel for the price risk exposure on purchased cattle as well as calves from a cow/calf program. The absolute buy/sell margins in dollars per hundred-weight are one measure of price risk.
eXtension HorseQuest Web Site — New horse information and resource site. HorseQuest works hard to provide new and timely information to address all equine interests.
Farm Structures — Information on farmstead planning; livestock housing systems and equipment, hay and utility storage facilities.
Forage Economics — Program provides information about forages.
Forage Mineral Program — A Web site focusing on the mineral nutritional needs of beef cattle.
Livestock Waste Management and Conservation — This Web site was developed for Tennessee livestock producers. The site contains information on waste management, CAFO regulations, conservation practices and other issues.
Southeast Dairy Extension — A web-based portal of links to specific articles and information-rich sites for dairy producers.
Tennessee Beef Cattle Improvement Initiative — A statewide effort focusing on improving the value, quality and performance of Tennessee beef.
Tennessee Master Beef Producer Program — Education program designed to provide information to Tennessee cow-calf producers to help them improve their profitability.
