Farm Management
mproved management helps not only individuals, but also develops a stronger Tennessee economy. Extension faculty provide farmers with information on how to improve production through innovative methods in cultural techniques and livestock management practices. They also educate farmers on how to be more efficient in their use of labor, equipment, land and other resources. Animal Waste Management Systems — A state-wide animal waste management educational program.

Beaver Creek Study — Study of the effects of agricultural practices on water quality and the extent to which best management practices (BMPs) may reduce these impacts.

Beef Cattle fIRM — A software product designed for beef cattle farmers and ranchers.

Budgets — Short-term planning budgets for livestock and the most prevalent field crop enterprises.

Buy-Sell Margins Calculator — This program allows farmers to look at historical buy/sell margins for buy-sell periods that you select for heifers and steers. These historical buy/sell margins can give you some feel for the price risk exposure on purchased cattle as well as calves from a cow/calf program. The absolute buy/sell margins in dollars per hundredweight are one measure of price risk.

Census of Agriculture 2002 — Agricultural census data provided by the USDA National Agricultural Statistics Service.

Dairy Systems — Project to help dairy farmers make better decisions.

Extension Priority Programs - Programs focusing on improving the profitability and sustainability of Tennessee agriculture. Emphasis is placed on improved decision-making based on integrated management and marketing systems.

Farm-A-Syst — Program to help farm families and rural residents assess and reduce risks affecting the quality of their water.

Farm Safety and Health — Information sources on many aspects of farm safety, health and environmental hazhards, and the Extension Disaster Education Network (EDEN).

Farm Structures — Information on farmstead planning; livestock housing systems;and equipment, hay and utility storage facilities.

Forage Economics — Program provides information about forages.

Home-A-Syst — Program designed to help homeowners assess factors in the home that can affect health, safety, and the environment.

Horticultural Business Information Network — A centralized marketing and management information database that specifically serves horticultural businesses.

Income Tax Seminars — Extension Service in cooperation with IRS and TN Farm Bureau sponsers tax seminars.

Machinery Cost Calculator — Cost analysis of farm machinery and implements has been greatly simplified with Machinery Cost Calculator. Producers now have a sophisticated, yet user-friendly tool to estimate costs of owning and operating farm machinery and equipment. Costs of machinery can be estimated on a per hour of use and per acre farmed basis.

MANAGE program — A program to help Tennessee farm families carefully evaluate their individual situation and assist them in improving their quality of life. Over 8,000 Tennessee farm families have participated in the intensive farm and financial planning phase of MANAGE.

Power and Machinery — Information on the care and maintenance of power equipment and farm machinery.

Software Systems — Software programs available for farm management.

Soil Test Laboratory — Program to help homeowners, farmers, nursery growers and researchers submit soil samples for diagnostic analysis.

Tennessee AgrAbility Project — Information to help Tennessee's farmers, farm workers and their family members who have disabilities.

Tobacco Online — Research-based infomation concerning tobacco production form seed to sale.
