4-H INSERVICE RESOURCE SITE

We have created a Web site so you might have access to the resources from the statewide 4-H inservice training held at Henry Horton State Park last month. The URL address is 4h.tennessee.edu/inservice/2008/index.htm. There you will find resources from those workshop instructors/roundtable facilitators who have shared their resources. DATES SET FOR PROJECT CITIZEN TRAININGS

UT Extension and the 4-H Youth Development Department have partnered with the Center for Civic Education and the Howard Baker Center for Public Policy to offer the Project Citizen program. This program (designed for middle school [5th-8th grade] youth) focuses on youth/adult partnerships, civic engagement and youth voice. This program, designed to be a taught in a multi-session format (in-school or afterschool), provides youth with the opportunity to identify a need within their community, work as a team to become a change agent in their community and work to correct/resolve the need. The culminating experience for the youth is the opportunity to develop a type of an interactive exhibit, which youth can take to local civic club meetings, school board meetings, etc. to showcase their findings.

A Project Citizen training will be offered in each region of the state. The trainings will run from 9:30 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. Dates are as follows.

Western Region
Western Region Office (Room A), Jackson - July 30, 2008

Central Region
Ward Ag Center (Arnett Building), Lebanon - July 31, 2008

Eastern Region
UT Ag Campus (156/157 Plant Biotech), Knoxville - August 1, 2008

The trainings are open to Extension agents, program assistants and volunteer leaders. These trainings will provide the attendees with a teacher’s guide and a classroom set of student workbooks to use when implementing Project Citizen.

THOUGHT FOR THE WEEK

We could learn a lot from crayons... Some are sharp, some are pretty and some are dull. Some have weird names, and all are different colors, but they all have to live in the same box.
